Another trip to the Emergency Room.

So, last night Jordan goes to young men's. They were playing ultimate Frisbee at a park one block away. About 8:00 I get a call from his leader saying that Jordan stubbed his toe really bad and would probably not be able to walk home. I drove to pick him up. He said it hurt, but not that bad. I asked if he needed to go to the doctors and he said he did not think so. I had been ready to go on a bike ride and since Jordan seemed not to be in a lot of pain I, got him ice elevated the foot and then left for my ride. Later that night I took another look his toe. The toe was looking pretty bad, kind of bent in a weird shape and was bleeding a little. We covered it up, iced it some more and decided that I would take him to the doctors the next morning, thinking it was probably broken.

Today I took Jordan into Urgent Care at the hospital and sure enough it was a pretty bad break, Clear through, kind of like a broken stick. the bone had actually broke through the skin and that is why it had been bleeding. The bone worked its way back under the skin so it was not poking out at the time. Poor kid I felt so bad for going on my bike ride instead of taking him right into the urgent care the night before. So the urgent care doctor tries to reset it twice and the bones won't go back together. The doctor called the on call orthopedic doctor and sent us to the adjoining hospital to see him. The doctor said Jordan may need surgery that same day and would probably need a pin put in his toe. Chad came home from work and my Dad took Ethan for the day and Alex went to gym so the other kids were all taken care of. I was preparing to be at the hospital all day. When the Orthopedic doctor came in he numbed Jordan's toe again and tried once again to reset it. This time it worked!!! Yeah no surgery required. It was a little gross watching the doctor manipulate Jordan's poor swollen black and blue toe. Jordan has to stay completely off of the foot until Monday when I take him back in and then we will see what is happening and if the toes stayed in place after being reset. They gave him a medication for infection, because I guess if the bone was exposed at all it can get infected pretty easily. He was suppose to have a tennis match today, but tennis is out for awhile that's for sure.

  1. Yikes! That doesn't sound good. I'm glad the Dr was able to reset it though. You need a break from the hospital.

  2. Wow your kids better not leave the house anymore. I am glad alex & Jordan are both all right now. I was sure cringing reading about his toe being set 3 times.
